A unique 1 kg cast gold bar produced by the Swiss refiner Metalor (Métaux Précieux SA, Neuchâtel) and struck with the marks of Bank Leu. Bank Leu was one of Switzerland’s oldest banks, founded in Zurich in the mid-18th century; the lion in its crest appears in the round hallmark on the bar. Bank Leu passed to Credit Suisse in 1990, and bars bearing its name are no longer produced — which gives this piece genuine collector appeal.
The bar carries the individual serial number, matching the original 1986 Metalor assay certificate (Bulletin d’Essai) supplied with it. This is a single, unique item: the surface shows marks of age and handling that are part of the character of a genuine vintage bar. The bar is made using the traditional casting method.
Historical context: in the same year, 1986, the first American Gold Eagle investment coin was issued, bringing gold investment to a wider public.

It comes with the original Metalor assay certificate (Bulletin d’Essai, 4 November 1986), which states a gross weight of 1,000.00 g and a fineness of Au 999.9. This is a single, unique item with its own serial number.

The bar qualifies as investment gold and is therefore exempt from VAT.
