Credit Suisse 1 kg Gold Bar (1974), H322771 – with Assay Certificate

A unique 1 kg cast gold bar produced by the Swiss refiner Valcambi (Balerna) and struck with the marks of Credit Suisse. Credit Suisse was one of the most significant banks in Switzerland and the world, founded in 1856. In 2023 Credit Suisse was taken over by UBS, and bars bearing its name are no longer produced — which gives this piece genuine collector appeal.

The bar carries the individual serial number, matching the original 1974 Valcambi assay certificate supplied with it. This is a single, unique item: the surface shows marks of age and handling that are part of the character of a genuine vintage bar. The bar is made using the traditional casting method.

Historical context: in 1974 the United States restored private gold ownership after a 41-year ban and modern gold futures trading began. This was a turning point often regarded as the birth of modern private gold investment.

The bar was produced by the Swiss refiner Valcambi (Balerna) and struck with the marks of Credit Suisse. It comes with the original Valcambi assay certificate (Bulletin d’essai, 21 June 1974), which states a gross weight of 1,000 g and a fineness of Au 999.9. This is a single, unique item with its own serial number.

The bar qualifies as investment gold and is therefore exempt from VAT.
